To go or not to go?

So my 10 year high school reunion is in a couple of months. I really don’t want to go for several reasons. Most of my friends aren’t going. I’m not in the place I thought I’d be by now and don’t know if I’ll be closer to it in 2 months or not. For instance, I’m not married. Not dating anyone. No job. Living in the same city where I lived in high school,–in the same house at that. I know I look better than I did in high school (yes, that counts and I know I’m vain :) ). And then there’s the drama that’s been going on with the planning of said event. One of my good friends was our class president and was planning this reunion up until her husband’s company relocated their family three states away. The others sort of took over and have ignored her phone calls and emails. So she feels hurt but is still attending. Personally, I think because it’s an excuse to visit because she hates her new home. Anyways, there has been other drama with the girls planning this and I just feel like we’re still stuck in high school. Most of these girls never moved away, had several children, aren’t married, and still drink like they’re 21. It just sounds annoying to me. And I’m sure there will be a lot of fake happy smiles and “let’s get together” plans that will never materialize.

On the other hand, it may be fun to see some other people whom I haven’t seen in 10 years. But with myspace and Facebook, I feel like I’ve re-connected with some of those people, if only virtually.

I can’t really think of more than one reason to attend this reunion. Most likely, I will stress over it, spend a ton of money to go (tickets are a little pricey), and regret that I did go.

And maybe I’ll be in Major City by then and won’t be able to get time off of work to attend. Darn :)

Did anyone else go to their reunion?

  1. I avoid them at all costs, for the not only the male equivalent of your reasons above, but also mainly I CBA and I’ve not lived in that area for 10+ years anyhow.

  2. What is CBA? I think I’m going to avoid this one. The 20 year reunion will be better I think.

  3. Can’t Be Arsed!

  4. It’s not really something we do over here, but I’d avoid them if we did. It just a bunch of people trying to one up everyone else with how great their lives are. And they’re all lying :)

  5. Oh ok, I thought it was something like a GED. Gotcha.
    Exactly right Dom.
